Chris Robinson was the perfect guest. Charming, funny, self-deprecating and insanely talented. We laughed, we cried and just had a ball as Chris talked about his latest project the Chris Robinson Brotherhood as well the Black Crowes, growing up in the South and his love for the Bay Area and the Grateful Dead. Oh, and the tunes were spectacular too. Enjoy this special show.
Dubbed “Xmas in October” as that’s when this episode was taped, this fun show was recorded early to accommodate a TV special. Soundwaves Xmas 2017 is airing on various TV stations throughout the Bay Area thru December. On it you’ll find Renee and Irish Greg hosting some of it as well as wonderful performances, seasonal and otherwise, by the Sam Chase, Matt Jaffe and Rabbit Quinn.
We had a mighty fine evening at Mighty Fine Guitars in Lafayette in the cool little venue that sits behind the store. A full house was treated to music by proprietor Stevie Coyle and his musical partner Glenn Houston under the moniker The Quitters. Then we were joined by famed photographer Jay Blakesberg who regaled us with stories about being the Grateful Dead’s official photographer and his Tom Petty picture that is currently on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine’s special on the late great rocker. Finally Jimmy Dillonclosed out the night and told us about life on the road with Clarence Clemons, playing Bill Clinton’s inauguration and making a record with John Lee Hooker.
We were recently asked to host a panel and at the same time tape a podcast at the SF Music Tech Summit in San Francisco. The topic was Patreon where fans of individual musicians or podcasters (cough, cough) can become patrons and help those creators by donating as little as $1 a month. Our guests were Carlos Cabrera who leads the Data Science team at Patreon and musicians Julia Nunes and Mike Baker (Radio Nowhere).
We talked about the groundbreaking membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid and were also treated to performances by Julia and Mike.
Here’s the Facebook live stream of the event. Podcast to follow shortly.
We had a truly special night with Steve Earle who was unexpectedly joined by Bob Weir at the Haight St Art Center in a benefit for the Blue Bear School of Music. Steve played a couple of songs by himself including “Copperhead Road” and then Bob joined him for a few tunes that ended with the Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider.” Awesome!

We can’t believe we’ve been doing this a year and appreciate you listening and coming out to our shows. We’ve laughed and we’ve cried with Steve Poltz, Nicki Bluhm, Jonathan Richman, Jerry Harrison, Dave Eggers, John Wesley Harding and so many others. THANK YOU ALL!
To celebrate our anniversary we were joined again by our first ever guest Chuck Prophet along with Dawn Holliday from Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and the whole thing got started with Francesca Lee and her beautiful voice. Enjoy!
